August 27, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) – Wacom Co, Ltd., announced that it has resolved its patent infringement case against Maxeye pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Wacom asserted patents relating to the standards for pen communications protocols issued by the Universal Stylus Initiative for USI Pens.
As part of the settlement, Maxeye recognized the value of Wacom’s IP by agreeing to a consent judgment acknowledging infringement of Wacom’s patents, that Wacom’s asserted patents are valid, and that Wacom’s IP is essential to the USI protocol. Maxeye also agreed to pay royalties to Wacom in exchange for receiving a license to sell certain USI digital pen products.
In addition, Maxeye has agreed to use best efforts to ensure that its non-USI digital pens do not infringe Wacom’s existing patents. The settlement also provides that Wacom can seek an injunction through an arbitration proceeding instead of Court to halt the sale of any Maxeye non-USI digital pens that infringe Wacom’s existing patents.
