Wacom and RE-X Expansion Conduct Pilot Project with Kakuyasu Group, Leveraging Handwritten Data for Retail Digital Transformation

Streamlining Delivery Operations and Monitoring Drivers’ Physical Condition with Android tablets using Wacom’s digital pen technology

May 12, 2026 (Tokyo) -- Wacom Co., Ltd, (hereafter “Wacom”) and its newly-acquired subsidiary, RE-X Expansion Inc. (hereafter “RE-X Expansion”) today announced its collaboration with HitoMile Co., Ltd., (hereafter "HitoMile") the operator of the Kakuyasu Group, a liquor sales and delivery service. The Pilot Project on retail POS system will commence from July 2026, utilizing digital ink technology to capture and process handwritten data for digital transformation (DX) in the Kakuyasu Group’s delivery and store operations.

Wacom has been the global leader in the pen tablet market, developing OEM pen solutions and advancing the development of digital ink technology for capturing and processing handwritten data. Using Android tablets equipped with Wacom’s digital pen, Wacom and RE-X Expansion will develop a business system that leverages its digital ink technology for the Kakuyasu Group

Background and Challenges
HitoMile operates its existing liquor sales and delivery business through the Kakuyasu Group, while also promoting a logistics system business that provides one-stop services from order reception to delivery, billing, and payment for various products.

The Kakuyasu Group is now using various types of devices in its POS terminals and data management for liquor sales and delivery operations at stores. It is planning to simplify the entire system to coincide with the system update scheduled in 2027. With this update, they aim to introduce Wacom’s digital pen and digital ink technology to improve operational efficiency and ease of work for store staff, strengthen the monitoring of changes in delivery drivers' physical condition, and enhance system security.

Overview and Objectives of the Pilot Project
Wacom and RE-X Expansion will launch the Pilot Project from July 2026 at a store near HitoMile’s Head Office in Kita Ward. The verification will proceed in stages, with the goal of expanding to all Kakuyasu stores around March 2027, based on the results. By converting the intuitive act of "writing" into tangible digital assets, the Pilot Project is designed to maximize on-site productivity and enhance the experience for customers and workers

1. Promoting Retail DX Expansion Leveraging Handwritten Input

  • Secure Authentication and Operational Improvement: By using biometric authentication based on the dynamic characteristics of handwriting such as stroke order, pen pressure, in-air movements, and writing speed, users will eliminate the risk of forgetting passwords and enable instant and secure login to the POS system.
  • Paperless B2B Transactions and Authentication Management: By digitizing delivery signatures and other documents for restaurants, and by adding electronic signatures and time-stamps to the electronic signature data precisely captured with Wacom's unique technology, we will ensure authenticity while reducing paper management costs and storage space.

2. Enhancing Safety and Health Management in Delivery Operations

  • In delivery drivers' operations, handwritten data generated during daily report entries and signature authentication will be collected and analyzed using digital ink technology. We will investigate the possibility of identifying signs of fatigue and changes in physical condition from variations in pen pressure and writing speed. By monitoring this in combination with legally mandated alcohol check results, we aim to support the realization of safe driving. (*At this stage, this is a verification of possibilities and does not constitute a medical diagnosis.)

Advantages of Using Wacom's Technology
Wacom's technology seamlessly connects customer interactions, which are often fragmented by keyboard and mouse operations, through the use of portable Android OS-equipped pen input tablets. With Wacom's technology, which precisely captures the "dynamic characteristics of handwriting" – a quality whose form can be imitated but is extremely difficult to reproduce – we can achieve both robust security and an intuitive interface that is closest to human interaction.

Representative's Comment on This Initiative
"Wacom provides a 'pen and ink experience' that integrates hardware, software, and services, with digital pen technology at its core. The unique handwriting data generated by digital ink can reflect not only business authentication but also a person's mental and physical state. Through this joint Pilot Project with RE-X Expansion, we aim to create new service value and contribute to safer delivery operations." — Nobutaka Ide, President and CEO, Wacom Co., Ltd.

“Together with Wacom and RE-X Expansion, we aim to advance the development of a system that provides even higher quality logistics services, all while ensuring the working comfort of store employees and the safety and health of each individual delivery driver." — Tomoki Murayama, Corporate Officer overseeing the Group Systems Planning & Development Department and Group Systems Services Department, HitoMile Co., Ltd.
